When will the sample be ready?

“样品什么时候好” is the question that follows “can you make a sample” and precedes “I’m ready to place the order.” The sample stage is where factory relationships are tested: the speed and quality of the sample delivery tells you more about how the factory operates than any sales pitch. A factory that turns around a high-quality sample in a week is organized, has capacity, and values your business. A factory that takes three weeks for a simple sample with no communication in between is either overloaded, disorganized, or not particularly interested in your order.

Sample timing is a function of two things: the technical complexity of the sample (does it require new tooling?) and the factory’s current workload (how many other orders are in the queue?). A smart buyer asks about both: 这个样品需要开模吗 (does this sample need new molds)? If yes, add significant time. 你们最近忙不忙 (are you busy lately)? The factory’s honest answer to workload helps you calibrate whether a 7-day quote means 7 days or 14. A factory running at full capacity will prioritize existing production orders over new samples — your sample gets worked on in the gaps, not as a priority.

If sample timing matters — you have a trade show, a client presentation, a deadline — say so: 这个样品有时效性 (this sample is time-sensitive). But don’t make every sample time-sensitive or the word loses meaning. Reserve urgency for genuine deadlines, and accept that good samples take the time they take. A rushed sample with quality issues wastes more time than a properly made one that arrives a week later. The phrase 质量比速度重要 (quality matters more than speed) tells the factory you’re a serious buyer who won’t reject them for being thorough, which paradoxically makes them more likely to prioritize your work.
